Marina Selenica

Marina Selenica is a neuroscientist and the Core Project Manager at Target ALS, where she manages the Postmortem Tissue Core and supports the organization’s broader research initiatives, including the Global Natural History Study and Target ALS Data Engine. Her passion for neuroscience began at an early age following the sudden onset of a neuroimmune disorder in her younger brother, which inspired her to pursue a career dedicated to understanding neurological disease. Marina received her Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Neuroscience from Carnegie Mellon University and her Master of Science in Neuroscience from Tulane University.

Marina’s interest in ALS began at Georgetown University, where she worked in the Department of Neurology and gained firsthand clinical experience with patients and their families through the ALS/MDA Clinic. This experience sparked a deeper scientific interest in ALS and motivated her to transition into research within the department. She subsequently became the Program Manager of the Target ALS Human Postmortem Tissue Core at Georgetown, a role she held for almost 5 years.

In early 2026, Marina transitioned to Target ALS as an in-house Core Project Manager, where she continues to manage the Postmortem Tissue Core across six academic institutions in the United States and United Kingdom. The Core provides researchers with access to high-quality, well-characterized postmortem tissues from individuals with ALS, ALS-FTD, FTD, and non-neurological control cases, along with associated clinical and molecular data. She is committed to enabling researchers to better understand ALS disease biology and advance the development of new biomarkers and therapeutic strategies so science can progress faster than ALS.
